Thomas was killed in action on the 5th June 1918 and is buried at Bienvilliers cemetery, grave reference XIX.C.3.

Thomas had been born in Dawley but had since moved and was living in Rotherham by the time of his enlistment.

Notes: Thomas was Baptised on the 17th March 1878 at St Luke’s church, Doseley, his birth registration was in the 1st quarter of 1878, so his age at the time of his death would be 40.

Thomas’s father was James Astbury who Served in the South African Campaign, his mother was Emma Pritchard who also came from Dawley.
